BUFFALO (LGS) — The Buffalo Sabres announced today that defenseman Toni Lydman has been named captain for the month of November by the team's coaching staff.
Lydman and defensive partner Henrik Tallinder were alternate captains last month.
Jochen Hecht, who was October's captain, and defenseman Brian Campbell will be the alternate captains this month.
The pick may be surprising to some as Lydman has had a very tough start to the season. In 10 games, he has recorded only one assist while sporting a minus-2 plus/minus rating. However, Lydman and Tallinder appeared to be back in form in the team's last two games, wins against Florida and Tampa Bay.
Lydman becomes the fourth European captain in team history following Hecht, Miroslav Satan and Alexander Mogilny.
